Introducing Baby Balm: Our Unscented Whipped Tallow Balm for the Most Sensitive Skin

Since I started making whipped tallow balms, people have asked whether Bee Balm, Beauty Balm, or Blue Balm can be used as part of a family's skincare routine. Because those formulas contain essential oils, I also wanted to offer a completely fragrance-free option for people who prefer no essential oils or added scent.
Essential oils are concentrated aromatic ingredients, and preferences and sensitivities vary from person to person. That is why I formulate them thoughtfully and also believe a simple unscented option deserves a place in the lineup.
When I use an essential oil, I choose it intentionally for the aroma and character it gives a formula. Blue tansy, for example, gives Blue Balm its distinctive color and soft botanical scent.
However, what about families and adults who prefer a moisturizer without essential oils? And what about people who simply do not like, or cannot comfortably use, naturally fragranced products?
That’s why I created Baby Balm - an unscented, organic whipped tallow balm with no essential oils or added fragrance. It offers a simple, rich layer of moisture for dry-feeling skin.
A Fragrance-Free, Baby-Safe Balm for Simple Moisture Care
While I am passionate about clean fragrances, I understand that some people simply cannot tolerate scents of any kind. Baby Balm was created as a minimal option with no essential oils or added fragrance.
Many people prefer fragrance-free skincare during seasons when scent feels overwhelming or when they are simplifying their routine. A short ingredient list makes it easier to know exactly what you are applying.
That need for a simple, unscented moisturizer was central to this formula.

Why Tallow?
As I've discussed in more depth in a previous blog post, tallow has been used for centuries as a rich moisturizing ingredient. Combined with beeswax, sunflower oil, and a touch of honey, Baby Balm creates a smooth, moisture-sealing texture for simple face or body care.
What’s in Baby Balm?
The ingredient's list for Baby Balm is simple, but high-quality, paired with my batch-tested method to provide a smooth and spreadable texture.
Beeswax - Beeswax helps create a light moisture-sealing layer and contributes to the balm's firm, smooth texture.
Honey - Honey is included as part of the moisturizing blend and contributes to the balm's cushiony texture.
Organic, Grassfed, American Tallow - I use the best-quality, organic tallow, wet-rendered in all of my whipped tallow balms. You can tell in terms of moisture, scent (or lack thereof) and texture! My tallow also comes from good old American farm cows.
Organic Sunflower Oil - Adds a lightweight, silky feel that helps the balm spread easily.
What Does It Smell Like?
Not much! A keen nose may pick up on a buttery note from the tallow and a bit of beeswax when sniffing this balm directly. My husband and other friends says it smells like "nothing." I think that because I work with ingredients so much, I can detect them, but they are mild and medicinal smelling to me.
Because my other balms contain essential oils, people often notice how little scent Baby Balm has. I have not added anything to shape the aroma; any mild scent comes naturally from the tallow, beeswax, sunflower oil, and honey.

Can You Use Baby Balm on Your Face?
Yes! Baby Balm is a great option for those needing an ultra-gentle facial moisturizer, especially for dry or sensitive skin. I am making the price point of this one super affordable compared to most tallow balms on the market, because it is less expensive for me to make than the ones with the added benefits of essential oils (I alternatively thought about calling it Basic Balm, because we have to keep the alliteration going no matter what).
